Aluminum can form a cabinet structure or a front. HPL and acrylic describe surface or front systems that may use different cores. Ask the supplier to identify the cabinet-box material, door core, surface, panel thickness, edge treatment, countertop and hardware. The kitchen material types guide explains the starting vocabulary.
Moisture and the sink area
Aluminum does not absorb water like wood-based boards, but the complete kitchen is not immune to leaks or corrosion. Hinges, fasteners, coatings and other materials still need appropriate protection. Wood-based board performance varies with the board grade and sealed edges. Check sink joints and ventilation, and repair leaks promptly regardless of the cabinet material.
Heat, cleaning and pests
Follow the appliance and surface manufacturers’ requirements around ovens, hobs and extractors. A metal cabinet structure does not certify the fire performance of its front, coating or adhesive. Material choice also does not replace pest control, cleaning and moisture management. Inspect real samples and follow the selected finish’s care instructions.
